Background of the Study

Business intelligence (BI) tools have become essential for online retailers to drive growth and make informed strategic decisions. These tools leverage data analytics, data mining, and reporting capabilities to help organizations understand customer behavior, optimize pricing strategies, and identify trends that can drive revenue growth (Oluwaseun et al., 2023). In Kaduna State, which is home to several growing online retail businesses, there has been a growing interest in utilizing business intelligence applications to enhance revenue generation and competitiveness in an increasingly saturated digital market. However, many of these businesses still struggle with understanding and implementing the right BI tools that can effectively influence their growth strategies.

This study seeks to evaluate how online retailers in Kaduna State are using business intelligence tools to optimize their revenue growth strategies. It will explore the impact of BI applications on business decision-making, sales forecasting, and customer relationship management. Furthermore, the study aims to examine the barriers and challenges faced by online retailers in effectively using BI tools to maximize revenue.

Statement of the Problem

Online retail businesses in Kaduna State face the challenge of standing out in a competitive market while maintaining profitability. Many retailers continue to rely on basic sales data and conventional business strategies, missing out on the potential advantages offered by advanced BI tools. Although some online retailers in the state have begun to adopt business intelligence solutions, many remain unsure of how to effectively apply them to revenue growth strategies. The absence of tailored BI applications hampers their ability to predict market trends, understand customer preferences, and optimize their pricing strategies. This research seeks to evaluate the application of business intelligence tools and their effectiveness in improving revenue growth for online retailers in Kaduna State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the adoption and application of business intelligence tools by online retailers in Kaduna State.

  2. To assess the impact of business intelligence applications on the revenue growth strategies of online retailers in Kaduna State.

  3. To identify the challenges faced by online retailers in Kaduna State when using business intelligence tools for revenue optimization.

Research Questions

  1. To what extent have online retailers in Kaduna State adopted business intelligence tools in their revenue growth strategies?

  2. How have business intelligence tools impacted the revenue growth strategies of online retailers in Kaduna State?

  3. What challenges do online retailers in Kaduna State face in adopting and utilizing business intelligence tools?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Online retailers in Kaduna State have not significantly adopted business intelligence tools for revenue growth strategies.

  2. Business intelligence tools do not significantly impact the revenue growth strategies of online retailers in Kaduna State.

  3. Challenges significantly hinder the adoption of business intelligence tools in online retail businesses in Kaduna State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on online retail businesses in Kaduna State that have implemented or are in the process of implementing business intelligence tools. Limitations may include the limited number of businesses willing to share proprietary revenue data and insights.

  • Business Intelligence (BI): A set of technologies, processes, and tools that help businesses collect, analyze, and present actionable information to support business decision-making.

  • Revenue Growth Strategies: Plans and actions taken by a company to increase its income from sales of goods or services.

  • Online Retailers: Businesses that sell products or services via the internet.
